Apple store plans shelved after heritage authorities say 'no' — The Age — 5/4/2019
Apple’s flagship store plans for Fed Square. Least popular. Most rejected Apple store. Ever. Instantly slammed on first and second announcements. One hundred thousand signatures calling quits. Thousands of critical letters, comments and reviews. Apple’s megastore doesn’t belong in Fed Square.
Days until demolition
The Yarra Building, currently home to the Koorie Heritage Trust, will be demolished to make way for the new store, with construction beginning in early 2019.”

Shady plans that demolish Federation Square. Designed by Apple in California. Plans destroy award-winning Yarra Building. Secret government meetings and zero consultation. Victorians cut out of their public square. Equally rotten, Apple pays virtually no tax. Only 1% tax on total income. Wrong location. Wrong tenant. Wrong process. Wrong design. Apple doesn’t belong at Fed Square. Abandon plans.
Who the hell is running this town?”

Plan
Labor Victoria. Apple. Foster + Partners. And a shady plan to demolish Federation Square. Melbourne says, “NO!” Stop Apple Federation Square. On 20 December 2017, the Labor Victorian Government and Apple announced plans to demolish Yarra Building at Federation Square and replace it with an Apple retail chain store drawn by Foster + Partners. The Victorian Government has refused to reveal all terms of this very shady plan. Trash the plan. Tax
Apple pays virtually no tax in Australia. Only 1.6% tax on total income during 2015-16. Melbourne says, “NO!” Stop Apple Federation Square. While the company tax rate in Australia is 30%, through accounting tricks, Apple makes sure it pays almost none of that. Crazier than the coconut, Apple, now plans to invade and takeover tax payer funded public space in our city. Apple has no social licence to do that. Hands off. Trash the plan. Philosophy
Copy + Paste. Copy + Paste. Copy + Paste. Apple retail store philosophy by Foster + Partners. Melbourne says, “NO!” Stop Apple Federation Square. Cookie cutter monstrosity drawn by Foster + Partners. The plans simultaneously demolish Yarra Building — currently occupied by the Koorie Heritage Trust celebrating the Aboriginal culture of South-Eastern Australia — while turning our culturally unique liveable city precinct into a generic retail mall. Poor design. Trash the plan. Represent
With respect, which city does Victorian Labor represent? Cupertino, California or Melbourne, Victoria? Trash the plan. Take action! Stop Apple’s plan to demolish Victoria’s iconic and award-winning Federation Square in Melbourne. |

Promote
Why is Federation Square promoting “Today at Apple”? Heard the news? Melbourne doesn’t want Apple Federation Square. Representing California or Victoria? Trash the plan. Take action! Stop Apple’s plan to demolish Victoria’s iconic and award-winning Federation Square in Melbourne. Educate
Apple desires to “educate” and engage the community. With daily sessions that offer hands-on learning. Let’s take a closer look. Music. Only on iPad®. Photography. Only on iPhone®. Coding. Only on Mac®. That’s brand promotion. Not education. Melbourne says, “NO!” Stop Apple Federation Square. Apple has a distorted view of what it means to educate and engage a community. Apparently to Apple it means a classroom of products and a cash register. Not buying it. Trash the plan. |
Rotten Apple
Tax Quiz
Question: What rate of tax did Apple pay in Australia during 2016-2017?
Answer: 1%. (Yes, exactly one percent.)
😮 🤔 😠
Apple has no social licence to take over publicly funded spaces in Melbourne including Federation Square.
Apple’s insanely complex tax avoidance arrangements in Australia mean that Apple only paid $81 Million in tax although Apple’s total income in Australia was $8 Billion (2016-2017), an effective tax rate of only 1%.

Karaoke chicken calls out the bad eggs. Victorian Government in trouble. Two years of secret meetings. Too chicken to invite Victorians. Apple’s plans destroy Fed Square.
Victoria Votes “No!”The response from Victoria is loud and clear according to a poll conducted by The Age. Victorians do not want Apple demolishing the Yarra Building at Federation Square. Victorians do not want an Apple mega retail store dumped in the culturally significant Federation Square.

Public Debate
Apple in Federation Square
In late December 2017, the Victorian Government and Federation Square announced that the 15-year-old Yarra Building at Federation Square would be demolished to make way for a new Foster + Partners designed 'flagship' Apple store. In partnership with PIA, AIA, and AILA, Open House Melbourne hosted a free public debate on the evening of 13 February 2018 at Deakin Edge, Federation Square. This was an opportunity to hear from members of the architecture and planning profession, cultural and arts sector leaders, and public office representatives about the divisive decision that had generated a lot of public attention. This event was an opportunity for Melburnians to hear both sides of the debate and was live streamed across the Open House Melbourne website.
